Social lobbying: a call to arms for public health

The term lobbying derives from the public lobbies of the UK Houses of Parliament in London, where concerned citizens have gathered since at least the 16th century to speak with elected officials on the sidelines of legislative debates. In today's parlance, lobbying has evolved to represent a more pernicious and systematic approach to influencing lawmakers, occurring much deeper within the corridors of power.

Worldwide use of the first set of physical activity Country Cards: The Global Observatory for Physical Activity - GoPA!

The work of The Global Observatory for Physical Activity-GoPA! is the first global effort to compile standardized country-level surveillance, policy and research data for physical activity in order to better understand how countries and regions address promoting physical activity. GoPA! developed standardized country-specific physical activity profiles (“Country Cards”) to summarize country-level data through 2013. The aim of this study was to assess use of the Country Cards, identify the factors associated with their use, and develop recommendations for supporting country-level physical activity promotion.

Percentage of Deaths Associated With Inadequate Physical Activity in the United States

Current physical activity guidelines recommend that adults parti- cipate weekly in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity equi- valent aerobic physical activity to achieve substantial health bene- fits. We used a nationally representative sample of data of US adults to estimate the percentage of deaths attributable to levels of physical activity that were inadequate to meet the aerobic guideline.
